Case of Androcynum

Mr. Y.S aged 33 years, was brought to me for consultation on 9.1.95 at the insistence of his wife. His wife was under my treatment and I was aware of the difficulties that the family had to face because of his irresponsible and difficult nature. This helpless woman asked me if Homoeopathy can help in changing his mental attitudes and nature. She managed to bring him in person although with lot of difficulty. His appearance was very peculiar with heavily oiled dark hair which were evenly set without any parting, with a large fair face and a long pointed nose. He looked very innocent and soft spoken.

He complained of dandruff, offensive urine, constipation and baldness. He was practically not doing any job for over 8 years although he claimed to be doing a business of supplying some goods to the railways.

He would leave his home in the morning and return late in the night without anyone really knowing his whereabouts. He would tell his wife that he goes to the railway yards and bogies which are located on the tracks in between two stations.Therefore he cannot call or communicate with anyone. There were times when his wife had appointed professional detectives to find out where he goes and what he does. He was occasionally spotted in the cinema halls or gambling dens and when confronted in the night would insist that he was doing business. No one ever knew what kind of business he was involved in or where he spent most of his day. Ever since their marriage 15 years ago, his wife could never really understand where he was going. This got her into a very suspicious, mistrustful state. His wife also suspected that he was flirting with other girls. He admitted having affairs but only before marriage. He was highly secretive and never in the habit of telling the truth. He was changeable and totally unreliable in his word. She said,"Ever since our engagement, he is extremely quiet, never speaks anything and when asked speaks lies."

He admitted having a passion for gambling especially playing cards. He rarely brought some money home and was totally irresponsible about his duty towards his family and children. He was irritable, short tempered, quarrelsome and totally estranged from his family. However he could be very polite and animated with strangers and outsiders. He claimed to have developed an interest in become religious. He felt it was because of many thoughts with lack of concentration and confusion that he started playing cards.He would always argue and totally suppress his wife's opinions and arguments. He liked going out for picnics.

His wife lamented that in all these years, she had never seen him repent or feel guilty for anything. She described his nature to be like a venomous creature wanting to sting. He would keep the malice in his mind and would always sting at the opportune moment.

The dreams the patient often had were :-

  • Falling and waking up with a start.
  • Of going insane or someone doing black magic on him.
  • Being kidnapped and persecuted by gangsters
  • Unfinished work (In his words, "good or bad work".

It is interesting to study the description of his mother, as narrated by him and his wife. His mother was extremely weird and totally unconnected with anyone. She had no affection, no bondage for anyone.

The patient described his mother as very hot tempered, dominating and a boaster. She would purchase something for Rs.25/- and lie that she bought it for only Rs.15/- so that she could boast of getting it the cheapest. The wife described her mother-in-law as being extremely quarrelsome, very secretive and very very jealous. She is very selfish and a liar who is never ever bothered even about her own son. There is no relation of love between him and his mother. She had a habit of gambling and pretended to be religious. She can never see anyone happy. When he was a child, very often she would put him to sleep for long hours by giving opium so that she could indulge in extra-marital sex and gambling. She had a habit of stealing and always wanted to wear fashionable clothes and go out,only God knows where! She would cheat her husband of his money, who had no say whatsoever. She was also in the habit of feigning sickness. She could persecute her adversary or anyone she disliked till they would be completely finished. She made it obvious, "If you trouble me, I'll destroy you totally! She was also very superstitious. She was very good and efficient at whatever work she did. The patient's sister also had a selfish quarrelsome nature.

The main points of this case as I perceived it were :-

  • Delusion, persecuted he is;
  • Moral feeling want;
  • Of Unfeeling, unsympathetic;
  • Duality, malicious;
  • Liar;
  • Jealously;
  • Indifference to domestic duty;
  • Sexuality.

He was given a dose of Androc 30 on 9.1.95 which was repeated on 31.1.95 as there was no improvement. On 22.3.95, he reported extreme indulgence in gambling to the extent that he sold all his wife's ornaments. However for the first time he expressed an extreme inner desire to stop all this. Androc 30 was repeated again that day. By 13.9.95, there was lot of improvement in his overall behavior. He was more responsible towards his children and got interested in his father's business. He still complained of very offensive urine. Androc 30 was repeated again.On 8.12.95 he came with eruptions around the wrist and reported further improvement in his state.

It was for the first time that the wife admitted considerable improvement in his state. He was regularly attending his father's business and spent most of his evening with his children, either at home or taking them out to the park. He has also started contributed money for the family expenses.The eruption speedily recovered without any remedy and he continues doing well and reported last on 10th October 1996.
